What say you - daily weigh ins or nah?

How often do you weigh yourself? I don’t do it daily, but I’ve been wondering if I should start as I work toward losing these last 9 lbs. On one hand, daily weigh-ins can help you spot trends and stay accountable. On the other, the scale can fluctuate a lot day to day—hydration, hormones, even what you ate the night before—so it can be frustrating if you’re expecting steady drops. Curious what works best for you—do you find daily check-ins helpful or do you prefer a few times a week?

I can't recall the last time I weighed myself. I just rely on how my clothes fit. If it all feels stable, I'm happy. My goal is to work into more intense exercise, which may up my weight if I build muscle.

The Fad Doctor That is Full of BS

Lately, I have been so alarmed about the misinformation floating around on the web - especially as it pertains to nutrition. I think what makes this topic so difficult to discuss is the fact that you may be having a conversation with someone on this topic and both will shake their head in agreement and yet each individual will have opposing views in mind while assuming they are in fact seeing alignment or agreement on what "misinformation" is. Which brings me to Dr. Aseem Malhotra. I believe he has done so much damage to milliions of individuals - touting that saturated fats do not cause heart disease (via high cholesterol and hence plaque build-up). He essentially ignores some of the most reputable, long-term data out there. Here is a critique from Dr. Gil Carvalho: https://youtu.be/HkRJn6CyoQM?si=dOXqbeaqUjhlw7IN. I wish he would have called out the work of Dr. Esselstyn - but worth…

No, but I’m adding it to mine, too! Brain health—even my own after a TBI—often feels beyond what research can reasonably cover with its compartmentalized approach.

Are Cold Plunges Really that Beneficial?

Not according to NutritionFacts.org

Our neighbors up north swear by it. I am only ever tempted after a hot sauna and I will say it provides a sense of euphoria. However, you will not find me in Canada this month jumping into an icy cold lake - even if Lee bore a hole big enough!!

Don't Let the Exterior Fool You

Hi everyone — I’ve just completed the full manuscript for my upcoming book, which explores whole-food, plant-based nutrition, fitness, and chronic disease through the lens of a diagnostic radiologist. After decades of reading scans, the patterns are unmistakable: lifestyle choices quietly shape health long before disease ever becomes a diagnosis.

I’m now in full edit mode, refining the message with a focus on clarity, evidence, and practicality. In parallel, I’m also involved in a forthcoming cancer documentary that examines prevention, overtreatment, and the role lifestyle plays in long-term outcomes — themes that deeply overlap with the conversations we’ll be having here.

This community exists to ask better questions, challenge outdated assumptions, and support one another with science-based, compassionate discussion. I’m glad you’re here and look forward to engaging with you as we learn together.

BTW - what do you think of this for a title: Reading Between the Scans

What…

The title is cute. Not sure if it will be compelling to potential readers. Your publisher will undoubtedly have input into a compelling title for health-focused but nontechnical readers. Maybe something with the thought of Watching Disease Develop. Or seeing the picture, or something like that?

A CrossFit Experiment that will blow your mind!

f you think being young and fit means you're immune to heart disease or diabetes, you need to see this data. We took 27 incredibly fit CrossFit athletes and tested their blood. We expected them to be perfect. Instead, we found high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high glucose. But then... they made simple diet changes for five weeks. The results were so shocking, even the doctors were surprised. Our mission at Viva Longevity is to find scientists who can cut through the fog of misinformation and provide accurate nutrition guidance. How a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane Works: The Heart of Pure Water

A Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane is the critical, semi-permeable filter at the core of any RO purification system. Often referred to as the "heart" of the unit, it is responsible for removing the vast majority of contaminants from your water.

Have you seen Medicating Normal?

I just met the producer and key contributor to this eye opening documentary. I hope to be interviewing them inJanuary. I would love your take on SSRI medications. Do you think they are over used? Do you think they can lead to suicidal ideation? More importantly - how do you deal with the vicissitudes of life?
